Why We Will Use These Measures of Your Learning

• Exams show you first what I ask you to learn and give you a reference to later show me that you as an individual have learned those things.
• Course surveys, once at the start and once at the end of the semester, keep us objective against an education-research-developed check of how much knowledge you gained during the course.
• Learning checks give you a low-stakes way to practice concepts and methods developed during class and prepare for the larger-stakes exams.
• The archaeoastronomy project helps you achieve the ethnic diversity outcome of this course by focusing first on one culture and then sharing this knowledge with the rest of the class while learning about other cultures from your classmates.
• The community-based learning project reinforces your learning through interactions with others outside the class.
• The Canvas pages and discussions provide a structured way to organize your work with other class members and prepare your thoughts for the final exam.
