Pandemic Mitigation

Please review the Ranger Restart Responsibility Pledge and the University Health and Safety Standards.

Disability Accommodation

Any student with a documented disability who needs academic adjustments or accommodations must e-mail me during the first two weeks of class. Please include your letter of verification from the Disability Services Office (WYLL D175 at 595-2372). All discussions will remain confidential. University ADA policy is: https://www.uwp.edu/explore/offices/governance/policy15.cfm

Athletic Participation

Please come speak to me during my office hours as soon as possible about any university athletic participation you have that will conflict with your participation in this class so that we can plan around those conflicts for your full participation and learning opportunities.

Late Submission

If you miss a submission for an observation log for any reason, you may have it checked off during office hours within the following week for half credit. Reading and learning checks will be online through Canvas available for an entire week so I expect you to be able to complete them by the 7:29pm Tuesday deadline. You may make up missed points in the extra credit exam review quizzes. Project deadlines cannot be moved without agreement of all group members and the instructor’s and are subject to the need to finish the course by semester’s end. Any emergencies or advance plans interfering with scheduled exams must be dealt with by e-mail (so there is a written record for me) as soon as possible.

Revisions to Syllabus

We may need to deviate from the course schedule or otherwise make changes to the statements in this syllabus. In that case, I will revise the syllabus on Canvas and upload a revised version of this full document.

Course Concerns

If you have significant concerns about the course, please reach out to me to arrange a time to discuss them—I want to make things work for you as best I can within the objectives of this course. Concerns related to the course you and I cannot resolve should then go to the chair of the department (not the college dean, the provost, or the chancellor). Concerns broader than this course such as your work toward degree and life issues are best brought up with your advisor or the dean of students.

University Statement

The University of Wisconsin-Parkside is dedicated to a safe, supportive and non-discriminatory learning environment and to a safe and supportive classroom regardless of race, ethnicity, ability, national origin, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, age, immigration status, and other affiliations. Our university is committed to student excellence as well as promoting an inclusive campus climate in order to close equity gaps in the areas of student access, retention, and degree completion.

Academic Support

The Parkside Academic Resource Center (PARC) located in Wylie D180 offers free academic support through tutoring (you will need to make an appointment). The AssistSTEM program located in Greenquist 220 offers drop-in peer mentoring to help with time and expectation management and other college life advice.

Academic Honesty

“Students are responsible for the honest completion and representation of their work, for the appropriate citation of sources, and for respect of others’ academic endeavors.”
Wisconsin Administrative Code, Ch UWS 14

“Honesty is the recognition of the fact that the unreal is unreal and can have no value, that neither love nor fame nor cash is a value if obtained by fraud”
A. Rand, For the New Intellectual, “Galt’s Speech”, p. 129

I operate on the principle that you are showing me what you think (and not what another person thinks) so that you and I can address that to help you learn, then report on how much you have learned. I will address any deviations from that operating principle according to the administrative code. If you are unsure what may not constitute honesty in an academic setting according to the university, please review UWS 14.03 in the above link.
